Ways
of
Seeing
Pop-up Book
The inspiration for the project comes from the television series 'Ways of seeing' created by John Berger in 1972. Seeing comes before the word, and then we define what we see with words. The different ways of seeing affect one's emotions, understanding and even value judgement.
By responding to that, I have classified viewing as active and passive—active and passive viewing changes not only what we see but how we see. The image is like a result, and people conventionally ignore the process by which that result is born.
I use the pop-up book as a visual form to explore the single way of viewing, especially concerning screen technologies that people are trapped in today. To make the audience aware of the limitations of their way of viewing and provoke a re-examination of the way people view themselves.
